Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy: Pain relief and facilitation of easier safer delivery with Webster and Neuromechanical impulse technique by Dr. Bakshi

Pregnancy and Chiropractic Care

Many women suffer from lower back pain during pregnancy. At Nirvana Wellness Centre, more and more women are finding some amazing additional benefits to chiropractic care in pregnancy. Dr. Bakshi from Nirvana Wellness Centre Brampton has participated in advanced courses to learn specific chiropractic techniques which facilitate easier, safer deliveries for the mother and baby. Once such technique that she is certified in is the Webster Technique. The Webster technique balances the pelvis properly, reducing the stress to the ligaments that support the uterus, specifically the round ligaments.

Benefits of Prenatal Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care can:

  1. Correct misalignment in the spine and relieve pressure with gentle and effective adjustments.

  2. Help ensure that pelvic bones are properly aligned, facilitating a quicker, easier delivery.

  3. Re-establish the natural position and mobility of the joints.

  4. Remove any nerve interference which is vital for the development of a healthy baby and mother.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Chiropractic Care Safe During Pregnancy?

Chiropractic care during pregnancy is safe for both mother and fetus. Dr. Bakshi utilizes the Neuromechanical impulse technique combined with the Webster Technique, which is extensively researched, safe and especially gentle during pregnancy as far less force is required to correct misalignments and remove nerve inference.  Special "adjustive" positions are also used to provide comfort and safety for both mom and fetus.

How Often Should I Receive Chiropractic Care During My Pregnancy?

Chiropractic and Pregnancy Scientific Studies

Low Back Pain During Pregnancy

In this study, researchers identified the sacroiliac joints of the pelvis (frequently "adjusted" by chiropractors) as being responsible for the majority of low back pain cases in pregnancy. This is due to the significant number of hormonal and biomechanical changes occurring in the pelvis during pregnancy. The study found that 7/10 women were helped by Spinal Manipulation/Chiropractic Adjustments.

Chiropractic Care Effectively Reduces the Average Amount of Time Spent in Labor

Dr. Fallon, an internationally recognized author and "chiropractic pediatrician" has found the following: “Chiropractic adjustments effectively reduce the average amount of time spent in labor." Her data shows a nearly 25% reduction in the average labor times in those receiving chiropractic care versus the generally accepted average labor time - in women who had given birth in the past, there was a 33% reduction in average labor time.

Chiropractic and Baby Positioning

A woman with pregnancy- related complaints and breech baby positioning sought chiropractic care. After a 6-week period, her presenting complaints resolved and she was able to deliver the baby naturally.

A closer look indicates that when the mother’s pelvis is out of alignment, her nerves, muscles, and ligaments may could be contributing to the malposition of the baby. When a mother’s spine is realigned to proper position, a symphony of physiological responses happens immediately in response to the uninterrupted communication between the nervous system and the rest of the body. Tension in muscles and ligaments is released and the now well-balanced pelvis may allow the baby to adopt a more optimal position in preparation for birth.

Numerous articles have been published in the Journal of Pediatric, Maternal, and Family Health, among others, that observe and reference this phenomenon in the clinical setting.
