Trigger Point Therapy (Nimmo) and Active Release
Soft tissue technique used to diminish trigger points (knots) in tense musculature that cause “achy” pain and can sometimes refer pain to different locations (i.e. trigger points in the upper traps can cause headaches to form on the lateral side of the head and towards the eyebrows). Furthermore, usage of active release procedures to decrease muscle hypertonicity.
Graston Technique® Therapy
Soft tissue injuries can be debilitating with a high rate of re-injury and slow healing. Hence we are excited to introduce the Graston Technique® at Nirvana Wellness. This technique is on par with a deeper form of manual therapy, except we are utilizing specific instruments to eliminate muscle tension and mobilize connective tissue. This is an beneficial technique for those that suffer from chronic aches and pains associated with muscle tightness and decreased flexibility in their joints as results of repetitive sprains/strains or an injury. Rest assure, the practitioner will work with your tolerance.
Many of our patients report increased mobility, improved circulation, expediting overall healing, less tightness and restored function.
How does Graston Technique® work?
This technique works both on a tissue and cellular level. The practitioner first identifies the location of a painful muscle tension by feeling for knots with her hand. Once identified, she will choose the suitable Graston® tool and starts swiping the instrument over these knots. The swipe is described as a “deep, calculated stretch” applied in the direction of the muscle fibres. The practitioner may at times move a particular joint during the swipe to gradually stretch the affected tissue even more. Gradually, the swipe will become deeper, depending on the patient’s tolerance and tissue thickness.
